I definitely did learn a lot from 486. I enjoyed learning about all the Web 2.0 tools, even if I do not plan to use them in my class. I have been able to show a couple cool things to my brother which he did not know about! I enjoyed finding all the avenues I can show off my niece!!
Ranking all that I learned:
1. PREZI!!! It was time consuming to make my first one, but I LOVE it for teaching history!!
2. Blogs/website- I really do hope to start a classroom blog and website. I think they are very resourceful!
3. Wordle- I think this will be an interesting way to introduce a lesson or make an intro page in a prezi/powerpoint
4. Webquest- I think webquests could pay off if done right and get the students excited to learn.
Thanks for a good class Jeff!! It was a relaxing classroom that made learning new computer skills fun and easy!

Reflection on Scanvenger Hunt and Photo collection
I think the scavenger hunt and photo collection would be useful in getting kids moving around and being creative. The scavenger hunt could be used to make connection with social studies and the real world. The photo collection could be used in a membership blog to share pictures with the whole class.
Reflection on iMovie and spreadsheet
iMovie was interesting to make but it was time consuming to figure out. I think if I was taught what to do it would be fun to create. I also am not the creative, so I limit myself in that way.
The interactive spreadsheet was a good idea for giving a quiz, but I imagine getting the whole class to a computer lab would be difficult. If I worked out the details, this would be a good way to give a quiz and students would have their grades immediately.

World War II Study Guide
I think this would be a fun way to give my students a study guide, because it shows them connections they might miss if I gave them a bullet list of terms and people to know.

Glogster
Glogster.com is my favorite Web 2.0 tool so far. I like it because it could be very useful in a social studies class and be a "green" way to make presentations. My own high school experience required many posters for presentations in history and if I could have made a glogster, I would have been able to be more creative.
I have many ideas brewing where I would use this took in class!

Wordle and Twitter
I could see using Wordle as a attention grabber or to showcase a given story in class, but I do not see much educational use which will benefit the students.
On the other hand, I have to admit Twitter could be very useful in the classroom. I would not make it a requirement, but I would setup a class twitter account for students to follow. I would use it to send out reminders about tests, projects, and other class news. Parents could also follow so they would also know what was going on in class. The only downfall is not everyone has Twitter so I would still have to use other outlets to inform those who do not have Twitter. With that in mind, updating Twitter might be a waste of time for a class who has no desire to setup a Twitter account.
Sweet new chairs in class today!!
Oh and Emma is crawling now. My brother posted a youtube video.

Webquest Adventure
My first impression is that webquests could be a useful tool in a history classroom. They offer a guided structure for research and keep students on track. I think webquests could come in handy when students need to complete projects. Even though it seems a lot of work to set up a good webquest, I think it would take a lot of the stress off of students by supplying a foundation for research instead of throwing them to the wolves of the overwhelming worldwide web.
For example, I found a webquest about the structure of American government with the purpose of having students understand the 3 bodies of government and how a bill becomes a law. The topic was practical and the assignment was reasonable. The author also assigns students to write their representative or Senator, which makes the student feel connected to the larger world. I don't think students would be as overwhelmed to this project and they would actually learn the desired objective.

I now pronounce you provider and smartphone...
I have been anticipating the "marriage" of the iphone and Verizon ever since AT&T got the iphone years ago. But I loathe AT&T, so I have had to patiently wait for Verizon to carry the phone I want. Thursday Feb. 10, is almost here and I am eagerly awaiting to stand in line for my new phone. Is it wrong to want to miss school to get the iphone???

Suggestions from Work (Starbucks)
My co-workers favorite drinks:
1. Americano with Mocha (sometimes Soy too)
2. Vanilla Bean Frappacino ( NOT a FRAPPE... that's McDonald's) with soy
3. Iced Latte with 2 splenda
My favorite:
1. Iced caramel macchiato
2. caramel Mocha
3. iced White Mocha
I understand that not everyone is not a Starbucks barista, but it is always funny when someone doesn't know how to order at Starbucks.
Here is our favorite:
It is NOT grand but GrandE.
Or seriously what is the difference between a whole splenda and a half splenda.
We have some funny requests, but it makes for a fun job.
Stop by for a drink sometime... UC Starbucks.
I know this has nothing to do with class, but I didn't have anything to reflect on from class, and I am at work so it is what's on my mind.

Evaluating a Website (Part 2)
The second evaluation we had to do in class was discovering how legit a website is based on author info, dates, etc. The site I found was funderstanding.com which I found by googling "Piaget". Come to find out, I discovered a whole website about educational psychology. Upon further inquire, I found the site to be thoroughly back with an editor and many contributing writers. The info the site offered was well researched.
This assignment showed me how easy it is to search for topic and find more then you bargained for (in a positive sense). But both the previous assignments showed me the importance of doing your research on the research to make sure it is legit and not bogus info. (because anyone can make a website).

Website Evaluation Site
The Credibilty Project is an investigation by the Stanford Persuasive Technology Lab. They are trying to figure out what makes people believe (or not) what they see on a website. They discuss things like how professional a site looks increases how much people trust the site. I think their research can be beneficial for people creating websites as well as learning how to evaluate a website.

Wikis
For the last couple classes in TPTE 486 we have been learning about wikis and how to collaborate online. Creating a bio on the class wiki was easy, but I was unsure how to link that page to the homepage. I asked for help from a friend at work who showed me the steps to add a link on a page.
When I checked back later, someone else in class had mistakenly preated her bio on the homepage, deleting everything that was there before. I copied and pasted her info and created a separate page for her and fixed the homepage back to what it was. I did email the other student and let her know of my changes and that I would show her in class how to create a new page.
In the second class about wikis, the professor provided a thorough tutorial of wikis, so while he was talking I made changes to pages he kept going back to just to mess with him and the class.
I still am not convinced about wikis in class but it is something interesting to understand.

Class Expectations
Well I come from a family of Apple users and I am always the last one to get on board when it comes to anything to do with technology. If I discover something new, I call my brother to explain things better to me. Both my mom and brother LOVE everything they can do on there Macs. Typically I get on to check email and facebook, and maybe I will research something on google, but I do not do much else. My expectations for this class is to need my brother's expertise less and maybe even learn something he does not know and be able to share it with him.
I want to be comfortable with all that technology has to offer so that I will have many avenues to choose from when I begin teaching.

Introduction: About Me
My name is Becca Linsenbigler. I grew up in East Tennessee, but I enjoy traveling and seeing new places. I am studying to be a high school history teacher because I love youth and I love history. Beyond history I enjoy understanding the culture and people behind history.
Outside of school, I work at Starbucks. I LOVE it! Come by the UC and get your caffeine fix.
I love kids of all ages even though I am not gifted at teaching the little ones. I enjoy outdoor sports such as rock-climbing, snowboarding and caving. I am incredibly stubborn and will argue with a brick wall. I do not like doing things I am not passionate about, and therefore I am over-dedicated about things I commit to accomplish. I do not settle.
I have a cat named Maggie and a dog named Heidi. I became an aunt 7 months ago. My niece’s name is Emma Grace, and my whole family is obsessed with her, so there will be several updates about her through the semester. (She just got her first tooth!!)
I desire to go the Europe and live in Germany for a while after I finish school. Not only is German history my favorite to study, but my family heritage is German. I want to submerge myself in the culture and not just learn about it from a book. Recently I have become intrigued with international law and the social injustices that occur all over the world. I have too much that I want to accomplish and see and do...
